Alfie McCalmont is hardly at fault but the midfielder is back at Leeds United, and back at square one after two pretty-decent loan moves away from the club. Now, McCalmont is in last-chance saloon as St. Mirren eye the Leeds talent.
McCalmont, 22, broke into the Leeds side during Marcelo Bielsa’s first season – but only managed two senior outings. A four-time Northern Ireland international, he went on loan in Bielsa’s third term in charge, joining Oldham Athletic.
He starred for Oldham, having a hand in 15 goals during 39 goals. Then, last season, he went to Morecambe in League One. While he played in more of a defensive role, he still clocked up 31 appearances. Now, he is back at Leeds.
McCalmont is back at Leeds in the Under-21 side, the same position he was in when he first went on loan. So, where does he go from here? Scottish newspaper Daily Record report that Premiership side St. Mirren are keen on a loan.

The report states that Leeds are keen to for McCalmont to get game time. A move to the Premiership side would see McCalmont reunite with the manager he worked under for the majority of his time at Morecambe – Stephen Robinson.
But given his position at Leeds right now, a loan to St. Mirren is his last chance to show Leeds what he is capable of. The chances of him making it at Elland Road are growing slimmer. Under Jesse Marsch, he has little chance.
Playing in the 21’s, now and then, is not going to convince Marsch. So, a move to Scotland playing top-tier football, against the likes of Celtic and Rangers, and shining, might tempt Marsch. That, or, throws him into the shop window.
