The Record claim St. Mirren are considering a loan swoop to land Leeds United midfielder Alfie McCalmont in January with the potential of a reunion between player and manager – having worked together during the 2021-22 campaign.
McCalmont, 22, is back at Leeds after two loan spells away from the club. A very successful loan at Oldham during 20-21 saw the Northern Irishman win caps for his country. He had a hand in 15 goals during 39 appearances for Oldham.
It saw him make the step up from League Two, to League One. He struggled at Morecambe, playing 31 times during the entire campaign. He played under Robinson from the start of the season, until Robinson left in February.
Now, Robinson is at St. Mirren and is keen to take his fellow Northern Irishman to Scotland. Leeds are keen for the midfielder to get more game time – with the midfielder entering the final 18 months of his contract at Elland Road.

McCalmont has returned to Leeds after playing 70 times at senior level out on loan in two years, to find himself back at square one. He is back in the Under-21 side, on occasion, given his age. He has to be one of the three elder players.
Given his taste for game time, McCalmont needs to go on loan. He has to go and show Leeds what he is capable of, again, if he has any chance of breaking into the side. Those chances are slim. So, it could be a potential shop window.
Ultimately, McCalmont needs to go out on loan – rather than rotting away in the reserves at Elland Road. He has shown he is a level above that – given he is already an international player. Scotland might be his perfect destination.
