Kenny Dalglish has told Viaplay – as per BBC Sport – he does not understand why Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou would want to leave Parkhead to join a side that is threatened by Premier League relegation, amid links with Leeds.
Postecoglou, 57, was reportedly a target for Leeds last month after the sacking of Jesse Marsch. The Record said Leeds wanted the Aussie as they felt there were similarities between Postecoglou and Leeds icon Marcelo Bielsa.
But nothing materialised – with Celtic clear at the top of the Premiership table and Postecoglou in no way looking for a new job. It comes after Postecoglou has starred since taking over at Celtic, already winning three trophies as boss.
Before the end of the season, that could be five – including a second League title. Celtic icon Dalglish questioned why Postecoglou would want to leave Glasgow in order to join a team in the Premier League fighting for survival.
“He’s done brilliantly here. It’s attracted clubs down south. You trying to say that Celtic is not as big an adventure as some of those clubs allegedly interested in him? Why would he go to the Premier League and get relegated?
“Or teams threatened with relegation. He’d rather be at Celtic looking to win trophies. But when you’re doing well, there’s always someone else interested, and so they should be,” Dalglish said, in a video posted by BBC Sport.

Dalglish is right. Why would £42k-a-week Postecoglou want to join a side in the Premier League that are threatened with the drop when he can continue to compete in the Champions League – and win trophies north of the border?
It was foolish of Leeds to go after the likes of Postecoglou – or Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, with Feyenoord top of the Eredivisie. It was only going to end in rejection. Accidentally, Leeds have stumbled on a good choice in Javi Gracia.
