Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez were amongst those to reply to Luke Ayling after the Leeds United vice-captain posted his reaction to the Whites getting relegated from the Premier League.

Ayling has taken to Instagram this weekend to express his disappointment that Leeds have gone down to the Championship.

It has been a week since Leeds’ relegation was confirmed. Unfortunately, there have not been too many steps in the right direction in the days since. There remains questions over the ownership. There is no manager. And it is not yet clear which players will be sticking around.

Liam Cooper has confirmed that he intends to stay with Leeds. And Luke Ayling now appears to have done the same – with his message on social media.

Ayling expressed his hope that Leeds will have the chance to celebrate promotion with the fans properly in the future.

And amongst those to reply were a number of our previous promotion heroes, with Kalvin Phillips, Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich all sending their support…

It is hard to know which direction Leeds will go in in the months ahead. Once a new manager is in place, it will be a little easier to guess at which players will stick around and which will move on.

Ayling and Cooper look set to be involved. But Leeds shot themselves in the foot by not adequately replacing those players who were there when the club were in mid-table in the Championship.

Ayling was Leeds’ best right-back this past season. And Cooper has probably been the best centre-back of the last three years.

They definitely have a role to play next season, and perhaps even beyond. But there is no doubt that the starting lineup needs quite an overhaul in this window.
