Juventus are the latest club to show interest in signing former Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.
That is according to Calcio Mercato, who report Juve are looking at options from the Premier League to strengthen their midfield, with Phillips among the names on the list.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is also said to be an option, though Phillips represents an ‘interesting’ alternative with a January exit from City now inevitable.
Phillips had been offered the chance to leave in the summer but opted to stay and fight for his place, a decision that has backfired with game time still still limited, even with the recent suspension of Rodri.
Everton and Newcastle United are among the other clubs to have shown interest in the 27-year-old, with an initial loan deal looking the most likely scenario ahead of the winter window.
Juventus want to sign Phillips
Phillips is in desperate need of regular game time if he wants to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s starting XI for next summer’s EUROs in Germany.
His £45 million exit from Leeds in 2022 just has not gone the way he would’ve envisaged, though he would be leaving as part of City’s treble winning squad, an achievement which can never be taken away from him.
Phillips could link up with former Leeds loanee Weston McKennie at Juventus, who has forced his way back into the plans of manager Max Allegri having been deemed surplus to requirements earlier this year.
McKennie endured a nightmare loan spell at Elland Road in the second half of last season as he really struggled for form in a Leeds side that slumped to a disappointing relegation.
It would certainly be interesting to see how a midfield consisting of both Phillips and McKennie would get on from the perspective of a Leeds supporter.
