Everton and Newcastle United are both interested in signing former Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.

That is according to iNews, who report Phillips is now set for a January exit from City after his latest selection snub from Pep Guardiola recently.

Phillips departed Leeds for City in the summer of 2022 for a fee somewhere in the region of £45 million, but it just has not gone to plan for him on the pitch.

The 27-year-old had been offered the chance to leave City in the summer after two Premier League starts last season, both of which were after the title had been wrapped up.

However, it has been more of the same for Phillips at City this term, with Guardiola again not giving him a look-in despite Rodri’s recent suspension.

Everton and Newcastle want Kalvin Phillips

Phillips will have aspirations of representing England at next summer’s EUROs and while Gareth Southgate is still getting in the squad, it cannot continue like this.

As such, it is said by iNews that a January exit is looking increasingly probable, with a loan move the most likely scenario once the window opens.

Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Newcastle United, West Ham and Everton were all interested in the summer, but it was Phillips who chose to stay and fight for his place.

A loan move from Everton never really got off the ground in the summer, but it is said if 777 Partners takeover is confirmed, it could open the door for a move and a reunion with Jack Harrison, who left Leeds for Goodison Park in the summer.

It is certainly disappointing for Leeds supporters to see how Phillips career has panned out since his move to City, but it was always going to be difficult to dislodge Rodri.
