It’s clear that Junior Firpo absolutely loved his time at Leeds United, which remains despite leaving the club this summer to re-join Real Betis.
Following a four-year stay at Elland Road after joining from Barcelona, Real Betis always seemed likely as Firpo’s next destination after leaving Leeds United. Even if, at one stage, it was said Firpo was in talks with Leeds over a new deal to remain in LS11.
Nothing materialised and Graham Smyth expected Firpo’s contract length with Leeds to be an issue. It was then reported Firpo’s agents believed remaining at Leeds was ‘unlikely’. Betis then made their move ahead of other interested clubs.
Sure enough, the 29-year-old penned a three-year contract with the club where it all began for him. However, he has not forgotten about the Whites as Firpo has still been watching Leeds and he loved Ilia Gruev’s performance against Everton.

Junior Firpo posts another Leeds United-related Instagram
It’s been a somewhat slow start in La Liga for Firpo so far, but his attack-minded nature is always likely to land some goal involvements as a left-back or left-sided wing-back.
He now plays alongside Diego Llorente and Marc Roca once again, with both also plying their trade in West Yorkshire with the duo. However, the circumstances of his exit compared to theirs is night and day.
Firpo loves Leeds fans and that feeling is reciprocated, for the most part. It’s also true that Leeds has been home for Firpo’s family as well. West Yorkshire was where his children were raised for the majority of their lives.
Firpo has recently added a Leeds tattoo to his collection of various bits of artwork on his body. That’s a lasting tribute but, speaking of Firpo’s kids, he has since posted another tribute and it involves them.
In the third slide of today’s Instagram update, one of his children is seen wearing a ‘Jasson No.3’ shirt. But it is not just any shirt, it is the 2025/26 away shirt. Firpo left before ever getting the chance to wear it himself.
Despite joining Betis, he is still wearing Leeds kits as well as his kids. Their love for the city and club is absolutely evident every time he posts an update, it seems.

Junior Firpo’s stats at Leeds
Despite a difficult start to his Leeds career with injuries and numerous cards, Firpo had two magnificent campaigns in the Championship under Daniel Farke.
It’s hard to believe he barely featured in the first half of 2023/24 due to injury, but the next 18 months of his career with Leeds were simply breathtaking.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Yellow cards |
| 2021/22 – Premier League | 28 | 0 | 2 | 11 |
| 2022/23 – Premier League | 26 | 2 | 2 | 6 |
| 2023/24 – Championship | 33 | 0 | 8 | 7 |
| 2024/25 – Championship | 35 | 4 | 10 | 8 |
From a left-back role, Firpo collected 22 goal involvements in 68 games. That is at a rate of roughly one in every three. Jayden Bogle and Firpo were crucial to the way Leeds operated under Farke last season.
Back at Betis, he has played a part in six of the 10 games thus far, being an unused substitute in the others. That includes one assist during a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao.
