Junior Firpo and Brentford forward Yoane Wissa have praised goalkeeper Illan Meslier after his performance in Leeds United’s 1-0 win at Leicester City.
The two players were both responding to Meslier’s post-match Instagram post, where he expressed his gratitude for the support, as well as his pride at the team’s performance.
Leeds entered the match looking to put an end to Leicester’s nine-match winning run in the Championship, and took the lead just before the hour mark through Georginio Rutter.
For much of the 90 minutes, Leeds managed to keep their opponents at arm’s length, with Leicester failing to have a shot on target until the 95th minute.
That finally arrived when Kieran Dewsbury-Hall met a cross from Abdul Fatawu, sending a header towards the top corner that Meslier was somehow able to claw away from underneath his crossbar.

That was the only real piece of action Meslier was called into on the night, with the save prompting Daniel Farke to label him as ‘world class’, as well as the best goalkeeper in the Championship.
And Meslier has come in for more praise from across football, with both Firpo and Wissa blown away by his moment of brilliance in stoppage time.
Meslier has had some difficult moments in a Leeds shirt over the last 12-18 months and so that save last night should be a real confidence boost for him.
It is hard to think of many, if any at all, better saves by the 23-year-old during his time at Elland Road, and there was no better time for him to do it than in stoppage time away at the league leaders.
Farke clearly saw the potential in him following his appointment in the summer and hopefully he can be the man to unlock his potential.
