Kieron Dyer believes Leeds United are still better placed to secure automatic promotion than Ipswich Town.
Leeds currently sit seven points behind Ipswich in second place, with the Tractor Boys having enjoyed a superb start to the season following promotion from League One last season.
Ipswich have dropped just 12 points from their 19 matches so far but both Leeds and Southampton have slowly but surely been cutting the gap in recent weeks with some brilliant runs of form.
Speaking on TalkSPORT earlier this week, Dyer thinks Ipswich are already guaranteed a play-off spot, but the Premier League quality of the relegated trio still make them favourites for automatic promotion.
He said: “I think they [Ipswich] are guaranteed the play-offs but I still think Leeds, Leicester and Southampton are the juggernauts of the league. I do think they’ve got Premier League players still.”
Leeds will hope PL quality shines through
Leeds still have a substantial gap to close down in the race for the top two but just need to continue winning their matches and hope the rest takes care of itself.
Daniel Farke has some brilliant players at his disposal with the front four having been hailed as ‘unplayable’ by Michael Dawson following their electric run of form.
It is looking likely that all of the division’s top four could well break 90 points, which just shows the level of each team vying for those automatic spots.
Farke, along with some of the senior members of the squad, have been there and done it in before in the Championship, and so hopefully that experience shines through in the end.
Ipswich, however, do not look like they will be going away any time soon and so it is important Leeds hold their nerve and continue chasing them, as they have been.
