Journalist says he ‘wouldn’t even rule out’ double Newcastle raid on Leeds

Transfer expert Dean Jones believes it is possible Newcastle United pursue a double move for Leeds United duo Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams this summer.

Jones was speaking to Give Me Sport, where he claimed Adams fits the bill of the type of midfielder Newcastle are looking at, while Aaronson is also someone who could tempt them.

The USMNT duo have both heavily been linked with moves away from Leeds this summer after relegation from the Premier League last month.

Both reportedly have release clauses inserted into their contract, with Aaronson’s said to be somewhere close to the £25 million Leeds paid RB Salzburg for him last summer.

Adams, meanwhile, is thought to have one around the £30 million mark, with Newcastle one of several Premier League sides, including Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Aston Villa, interested.

Newcastle are set to be in the market for midfielders this summer, with a new number four – of Adams‘ mould – a priority in order to hand Bruno Guimaraes with more freedom.

The Magpies are also keen on adding more creativity and if James Maddison cannot be prised to St. James’ Park, Jones thinks Aaronson could be a ‘temptation’ for Eddie Howe.

He said: “I wouldn’t even rule out a double American raid from Newcastle because I think that there’ll be some temptation to look at Brenden Aaronson. Tyler Adams definitely fits one of the midfielder roles that they’re looking for as well.”

It would be a surprise to see Aaronson earning a move to a side like Newcastle based on the season he has just had at Leeds, where he clearly struggled with numerous aspects of the Premier League.

Adams, though, is someone who would suit Newcastle’s high energy style perfectly, and his ball winning ability would complement the quality of Guimaraes in possession.

That said, Adams is someone San Francisco 49ers Enterprises are desperate to keep and build a team around, so it remains to be seen what his future holds.
