Journalist says Euro club have now made 23-year-old Leeds player their priority this summer

Club Brugge are in talks with Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk over a summer move.

That is according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reports the Belgian side have made Struijk their ‘priority’ as they look to replace Abakar Sylla.

At the beginning of the window, Struijk was named as someone likely to depart Leeds this summer following an extremely difficult final few months of the season for him personally.

However, up until now, speculation linking him with a move away has been sparse, with Struijk claiming at Leeds’ media day earlier this week that he wants to stay.

His commitment to the club may now be put to the test, though, with Brugge now in talks with his representatives over a potential transfer.

Tavolieri isn’t the only outlet reporting Brugge’s interest in Struijk, with Voetbal International also reporting they are keen to sign him on a permanent deal.

At this stage it is unclear what sort of fee Leeds are looking for Struijk, who still has four years left to run on his deal at Elland Road.

With Max Wober also set to move on, Struijk’s departure would leave Leeds extremely short at the back with just Liam Cooper and Charlie Cresswell as options.

Struijk has the potential to be one of the best central defenders in the Championship this season, particularly in Daniel Farke’s possession-based system.

However, it is difficult to forget just how poor he was at the end of last season and providing Leeds are able to recoup a decent fee, a move away could be the best for all parties.
