Journalist says Championship duo have enquired for PL striker, Leeds simply must move – opinion

Leeds United are in the market for a new striker this summer.

The Whites’ leading goalscorer from last season Rodrigo has already left the club and in Daniel Farke’s first two friendlies as manager, Leeds have looked fairly toothless in attack.

Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford have shared the minutes in pre-season so far, and while the former is set to play a big role in the Championship, he’d be far more dangerous in the three behind the striker.

Bamford, meanwhile, has not looked particularly sharp and there are still question marks over whether the injury problems of the last two years are behind him.

So far, Joel Piroe has been the most heavily linked striker with Leeds, but there may just be someone even better that could be available from the Premier League.

Journalist says Championship duo have enquired for Archer, he’d be ideal for Leeds

According to Alan Nixon, both Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers have enquired about the availability of Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer.

At this stage it is unclear what Villa’s response was, with Archer currently away with the rest of the squad in their pre-season tour of the States.

However, it is difficult to see Archer getting much in the way of regular game time at Villa with Ollie Watkins having made that position his own, and Unai Emery going big in the market.

If available, Leeds simply must make a move for Archer whether that be on loan, or permanently, with the 21-year-old already proven at this level after two prolific loan spells at Preston North End and Middlesbrough.

Archer can both score and provide assists, and his ability to get in behind the defence could replicate that of Teemu Pukki at Norwich City when Farke was in charge.

There is no doubting he’d be the ideal number nine for what Farke wants to implement at Leeds and if there is any chance of him being available, Leeds must move.
