German outlet Sport1 claim that Daniel Farke is a ‘serious’ candidate to take the Leeds United job this summer, after the 49ers completed their takeover from Andrea Radrizzani on Friday. Talks are already said to be initially underway.

Farke, 46, has the kind of CV that Leeds might be looking for. Two Championship promotions, as champions of the second tier, have been followed by a spell with Gladbach in the Bundesliga. Now a free agent, clubs are circling.

The German has already held ‘loose’ talks with Leeds over the chance to take the Yorkshire back to the Premier League. After an indifferent season, winning 12 and losing 14 in 36 games with Gladbach, he needs a new home.

Leeds are in talks and the report claims Farke is a ‘serious’ contender to take over at Elland Road, in what would be his second spell in English football – after lasting four years and over 200 games at Norwich. Celtic are also keen.

Well, his CV is certainly an impressive one for a Championship club. But is Farke the one to really get the excitement flowing? His Premier League record is the opposite. Relegated in 2019-20, sacked in his second crack at the top.

Leeds need a manager that is going to get us promoted and stay in the top tier. We do not want to become a club like Norwich in which we go up and down and then ultimately, as they have done, fall back into mid-table obscurity.

Leeds have got to find the right man that can take this club into the next era – and keep them there. Easier said than done and while Farke would be a good appointment – whether he is the one to excite Leeds fans remains to be seen.
