Italian journalist Nicolo Schira says Leeds United have agreed personal terms with on-loan Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie until the summer of 2027 – but a move will only go through if the club remain in the top tier.
McKennie, 24, starred on Tuesday night as he returned to the starting line-up and saw out the entire game to help Leeds beat Nottingham Forest. He was involved in the first goal, and saw out the entire 90 minutes for Leeds.
Forming a decent partnership with Marc Roca – which was praised by Javi Gracia – Leeds went from 18th to 13th. It is getting more and more likely Leeds will steer clear of relegation this season, given seven teams are now below us.
Anything can happen, but Leeds are well-positioned. Survival would see Leeds pay Juventus a fee of £30m, Schira says. But the journalist also claims that Leeds have gone a step further and agreed personal terms with McKennie.
Indeed, in his Tweet on Thursday morning, Schira says that McKennie has put pen to paper on a deal until June 2027. A contract that is worth €4.2m a year – around £71,000 a week. An expensive move, but for a top player.

Clearly, Leeds wanted to have everything in place to sign McKennie permanently and now, the USA star will have to wait and see if the Whites remain in the division. Leeds are spending big, but they are getting a proper player in him.
Still only 24 but with over 40 caps and experience in his home country, Germany, Italy and now England – it would be hard to find a more experienced player at his age. For £30m, Leeds could sign a lot worse. Big wages, but fair.
