Everton target Tete is now available on a free transfer this summer with the Toffees having identified him as an alternative to Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto.

That is according to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, who reports Tete is now a free agent after being granted his release from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

That said, as per the same journalist, Everton will face competition from Fenerbahce with the Brazilian having travelled to Turkey to hold talks over a potential move.

According to talkSPORT, Everton have identified Tete as a potential alternative to Gnonto as they continue to struggle to reach an agreement with Leeds over a deal.

The Toffees had a £15 million bid turned down two weeks ago but are yet to make a fresh offer, with talks still ongoing between the two clubs.

However, Gnonto could still stay at Leeds this summer with talkSPORT also reporting he and his agent are both sceptical over a move to Everton.

As such, Sean Dyche has been drawing up a list of alternatives with Tete among them, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Leicester City.

The Brazilian joined the Foxes in January and enjoyed an excellent debut, in which he scored against Aston Villa, with Brendan Rodgers praising his ‘immaculate’ touch and his ‘absolutely brilliant’ finish.

The 23-year-old struggled to replicate that form for the remainder of his loan spell, though, as the Foxes were relegated to the Championship.

That said, with Everton short on cash this summer, he could certainly prove to be a shrewd addition on a free if they were to pursue a deal.
