Joe Rodon shares the one thing Daniel Farke has told him he doesn’t like about his performances at Leeds United

Joe Rodon has been a key figure for Leeds United this season, following his permanent move from Spurs last summer.

Joe Rodon played a huge role in Leeds United’s road to the Championship play-off final last season. So much so that Leeds spent £10million to sign him on a permanent deal from Spurs.

The Welsh international has since featured 35 times in the Championship this season, scoring once and playing an integral role in the side, having been a mainstay at centre-back whilst changing partners throughout.

Rodon has often partnered Pascal Struijk. But a previous injury to Struijk at Leeds United meant that Rodon was partnering Ethan Ampadu at the back. Now, it’s back to Struijk after an injury blow to Ampadu.

But whilst Rodon has been a key player, Daniel Farke isn’t all too happy with one aspect of his game, which Rodon has shared in a recent interview.

Daniel Farke thinks Joe Rodon gets too angry during Leeds United games

Often times, Rodon can be seen fuming with his teammates. One particular incident was away against Hull City at the start of the year, when Rodon was visibly furious with Illan Meslier after he made a blunder leading to a Hull goal in the 3-3 draw.

Next up, Leeds travel down to the south coast to face strugglers Portsmouth who’ve actually picked up some big wins ahead of Sunday’s game at Fratton Park. Rodon has been speaking to the press ahead of the weekend and he was asked about his growing leadership skills, and his anger during games too.

Rodon said: “The boss kind of gets on to me about this, ‘always be positive’. Sometimes it’s quite difficult. I’m just a really really competitive person, so I think frustration and emotion, everything creeps into that and I think it’s the same for a lot of players.

“I don’t mean it in a negative way, it’s more of a pick-me-up and to just work harder and do more.”

Joe Rodon stats for Leeds United in 2024/25

Rodon’s stats certainly paint an impressive picture for the 27-year-old in this 2024/25 Championship season, with the former Swansea City man topping the charts for several key stats at Leeds this season.

He’s so far averaged more accurate passes-per-game than any of his teammates, as well as clearances-per-game and long balls-per-game too.

Rodon also chips in in terms of tackles-per-game and interceptions-per-game, but it’s clear that his role at the back focuses more on winning aerial duels and keeping play ticking over with his passing.

Two seasons in the Championship will surely have put him in good stead to go on and perform well in the Premier League; either next season or in seasons to come.
