Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was left blown away by Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon back in 2020 following a clean sheet against Chelsea – amid new reports that Leeds United are closing in on a deal to sign Rodon on loan.

The 25-year-old is back at Tottenham after a loan spell with Ligue 1 side Rennes during 22-23. Some glimpses of quality, but Rodon will be frustrated with the last year. Spurs completed the signing of Micky van der Ven this week.

Any chance of Rodon reigniting his Spurs spell under new boss Ange Postecoglou has ended with the big-money arrival of the Dutch defender from Wolfsburg. Leeds have taken advantage – as per The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath.

Rodon is set to sign for Leeds on a season-long loan, with Leeds acting quickly after Liam Cooper was ruled out for eight weeks – after scoring against Cardiff. Ex-Leeds striker Hasselbaink was impressed with Rodon, back in 2020.

Chelsea and Spurs played out a 0-0 draw. Speaking on Sky Sports (29/11/20, 6.35PM) – as per HITC – Hasselbaink praised Rodon: “He looks like a proper Spurs player, centre-half. Nothing fazes him, put his head in when needed.”

A really smart signing. No risks. A player Ethan Ampadu and Dan James know incredibly well given Rodon, and the Leeds duo, are regulars in Rob Page’s Wales side. In fact, they are pretty much the core of the current Wales squad.

A loan to Leeds suits all parties. His future at Spurs is done and it saves the London club some wages. Leeds bring in a centre-back that has already impressed in the Premier League and the Championship. Rodon gets game time.

There will certainly be a chance to get him permanently. Should Leeds gain promotion come the end of the season, Leeds should really consider landing him beyond next summer. But one to consider at the time. Smart addition.
