Jesse Marsch now shares what he found incredible about Victor Orta at Leeds United

Jesse Marsch is now almost 12 months on from his Leeds United exit and is starting to talk more and more about his time at the club.

Marsch had just under a year in charge at Elland Road but was sacked after a run of just two wins in 17 matches saw him relieved of his duties, a decision he still maintains was wrong.

He believes that Andrea Radrizzani was the one who failed to hold his nerve, while the former Leeds owner is of the opposite opinion and thinks he should have been sacked sooner.

Ultimately, Marsch was an appointment spearheaded by Leeds’ former sporting director Victor Orta, who was in charge of all things recruitment during his time at the club.

Marsch has been speaking on the latest episode of the Up Front with Simon Jordan Podcast and says working alongside Orta was incredible due to the way they both thought about football.

Marsch praises Orta after Leeds spell

He said: “I went because I liked Victor Orta, I liked the people at the club. I believed that we had symmetry in the ways we thought about football, and the ways we thought about leadership and the core beliefs we had as people.

“And by the way, one of the things I love about football is that Victor Orta has an incredibly big heart. He cares about people, when he leads a club, he invests in everything it’s about. He wears it on his sleeve and this is a bit like I am. I care more about the people, than winning.”

Following Orta’s sacking at Leeds in May, several of the club’s current and former players only had nice things to say about him, and so it is not a surprise to hear Marsch talk about him in this way.

At the same time, Orta was fired due to a string of poor decisions in the wake of Marcelo Bielsa’s departure. That includes everything from player recruitment, to managerial appointments.

Orta was the only person really responsible for those things at Leeds and so since San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have taken over, they have looked to build a much larger recruitment team.
