Jack Harrison came close to leaving Leeds United to join Leicester City and reports even claim that he had begun his medical at the King Power – and now, Jesse Marsch has given insight over the saga in Friday’s press conference.

Harrison, 25, has been in excellent form of late. Playing five times in January, he had a hand in five goals – scoring a 25-yard worldie against Accrington Stanley. He has laid on four assists in that time too. His form has picked up.

Harrison went to Leicester, starting a medical before a phone call from Leeds changed his mind. That is according to Sky Sports, who claim that Harrison is set to sign a new deal. Leeds told him they would match Leicester’s offer.

Brendan Rodgers has also discussed the move, saying he is “disappointed” that it did not go through. Marsch has given his version of events, stating it took time for the Leeds United board to come together to make a decision.

“How I would describe it, in the eleventh hour, something came from Leicester. We have been talking to Jack for a while about renewing his contract but it has stalled at moments. We have spent a lot of money in recent windows.

“Once we all came together, it was clear we wanted Jack to stay, he wanted to stay, and that’s why he is here. We are getting that contract finalised. Jack has earned it – but it created complication because he had 18 months left.”

Harrison is a top player and while his form can be inconsistent at times, it is a must that he is kept at Leeds. He gets it. The uncapped Englishman has been at Leeds for almost five years now, clocking up nearly 200 games for us.

While sometimes he does vanish in games, he is capable of magic and one thing that can never be levelled at the winger – is Harrison’s work rate is incredible. Constantly pressing, harassing. It would be a mistake to have sold him.
