Reports emerged after deadline day that Leeds United star Jack Harrison had actually started a Leicester City medical before Leeds pulled the plug on a move – and now, Brendan Rodgers has commented on Leicester failing to sign him.
Harrison, 26, has been in excellent form of late and Leicester were keen on a move. The winger has entered the final 18 months of his Leeds deal and Leicester were keen on a move. It is believed a fee of £25million would have seen him go.
Sky Sports claim Leeds made a phone call to Harrison while he was at Leicester. They informed the winger, who was included by Gareth Southgate in his preliminary 55-man World Cup squad, that they would match Leicester’s offer.
That saw Harrison perform a u-turn. Sky report that he is now set to sign a new deal at Leeds, keeping him at Elland Road beyond the end of June 2024. Rodgers gave his verdict on Leicester failing to get a Harrison deal over the line.
“It was surprising he was available in the first place. So when the deal gets to where it did, of course it’s [disappointing]. But we’re really happy with the players we did bring in,” Leicester boss Rodgers said, as per BBC Sport Leicester.

While it will be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets when he pulls on a Leeds shirt again – and, whether his head is in the right space – it is the right move to keep him. Harrison should have had a new deal before January.
Harrison has five goal involvements in his five games for Leeds in January. He is a top player and although he is a bit inconsistent at times, he often provides the difference. His goal at Accrington is proof of that. It is good we kept him.
