Jermaine Beckford admits he wasn’t that excited when Leeds United announced the signing of Glen Kamara towards the end of the last summer window – but now, he says he has changed his mind.
Kamara, 28, joined Leeds from Rangers for a fee believed to be in the region of £5m. A move that took its time, with The Finland star admitting that the delay over a move from Rangers did grow frustrating.
Having struggled to start regularly, initially, Kamara has grown into the Leeds side and become a key member of the midfield – whether that be alongside Ethan Ampadu, Archie Gray or now, Ilia Gruev.
On Sunday, Leeds cruised to a 12th win in our last 13 league games – a 2-0 home win over Millwall. Kamara once again played an important role, lasting the entire 90 minutes in the middle of the park.
Speaking ahead of the game on the former Arsenal man, Leeds icon Beckford told LUTV that he was not that excited by Kamara’s arrival – but more intrigued. Now, he thinks the Finland ace is “incredible”.
“When I saw we signed him, I was quite intrigued. I wasn’t excited, I was intrigued. Now that I’ve see him play with Ampadu, Gruev and Gray, he is incredible. Ball retention, awareness, control, passing ability.
“Understanding he doesn’t always have to pass forward – aware of his surroundings. Does that so well. Finds himself in positions that if we lose it, he is in the best place to win it. I really enjoy watching him.”

Speaking just before his move to Elland Road, Ross McCormack told Leeds that Kamara would be a smart signing – and goodness, he has proven the former Leeds captain’s right in his summer verdict.
Kamara is a crucial cog. Maybe underrated in the job he does at both ends of the pitch, both in defence and attack. He has been sensational. If you watch Kamara solely, you will be shocked at his work rate.
Load is a worry. Kamara will now be in action for Finland against Wales in the Euro 2024 qualifiers during the break, before returning and likely to start the remaining eight Championship matches. Time to shine.
