Javi Gracia was effusive in his praise of Leeds United ace Jack Harrison on Saturday after he netted his second goal in as many games against Wolves – and Gracia’s comments are a hint to the board to get Harrison’s future sorted.

Harrison, 26, got the ball rolling – scoring the first of six goals at Molineux during a crazy game of football. The no.11 firmly planted the ball in the back of the net after superb work down the left from Willy Gnonto. A really solid finish.

A player that needs confidence, but also a player Gracia is getting the best out of – at this stage. Against Brighton, Harrison got a goal and an assist. He got his goal at Wolves, and his cross led to Rasmus Kristensen’s first goal.

Of course, Harrison came within an inch of joining Leicester City on deadline day. It has been widely reported that Harrison was in the building at Leicester and undergoing a medical before Leeds pulled the plug on a potential deal.

The promise being, that he would be given new terms. But, that has not been forthcoming as of yet. Perhaps for two reasons. The first, being the board have been finding a manager – and the second, why sign a deal if we go down?

Gracia praise of Leeds ace Harrison a hint to the board to secure future

But Gracia commented on Harrison after an excellent performance from the £11m star on Saturday: “Always plays at a high level. Kind of player we have to take care of because they are the present and future of the club.”

So, with Harrison’s future in doubt given his near-Leicester move and his current contract expiring in less than 18 months – Leeds really have to get going if they are to keep the lefty at Elland Road. Gracia clearly want him to stay.

To say publicly that Harrison is the future of Leeds United, is surely Gracia making it clear that the club have got to keeo him – and if they are to do that, then he requires a new deal at Elland Road. His recent form is deserving of it.

Surely then, Gracia is telling the board that he believes Harrison is part of the long-term set-up at Elland Road and they should be doing eveything they can to keep him on side. Hopefully, it will not be long before a deal is signed.
