Jamie Carragher says Leeds United have Graham Potter and Unai Emery ‘fearing’ for their jobs

Leeds United have picked up seven points from their opening five games and sit in a comfortable 12th place going into Saturday’s clash against Bournemouth at Elland Road.

In the previous two Premier League seasons, the promoted sides have been relegated without putting up any kind of a fight. Last season, Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton were sent back down straight away.

This season, the signs suggest that won’t be the case. Despite Burnley conceding late to Liverpool and Gabriel Gudmundsson’s own goal forced Leeds to lose to Fulham, all three sides are putting up a fight.

For other clubs, patience could be handed to managers with the promoted teams far worse than the more-established clubs. But this season, it is different. The more-established clubs are in actual danger.

Jamie Carragher thinks Leeds could force managers to be sacked

Graham Potter is under intense pressure at West Ham, Unai Emery’s job security is hardly strong and while Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has signed a new deal, Wolves have lost all five Premier League games.

On Stick To Football, Jamie Carragher said the form of Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley could provoke other owners and boards to take action quicker on under-pressure managers like Potter and Emery.

“Is the decision for owners this season different because the promoted teams are doing okay? In the past, they always thought that they would be alright. Ten games in, some of the promoted teams hadn’t won.

“I think that probably saved a few managers in the last few years, but it may go back to the normal, the actual fear of relegation,” Carragher continued, suggesting the likes of Emery and Potter are in danger.

What is Daniel Farke’s job security as things stand?

Joining Leeds in the summer of 2023, Farke signed a contract until June 2027. Now, far north of 100 games into his spell as Leeds manager, Farke seems to have the support of fans after a tricky window.

If Farke continues to stay above the point a game average, there is no doubt that he continues in the role and come the end of the season, may even be handed a new contract at Elland Road by The 49ers.

Failure to do so, and Farke may be given his walking orders. As things stand, Farke’s security is fine but this is the Premier League and a few losses in a row could easily see Leeds fans turn on the German.
