James Maddison shares what he loved about Leeds United’s win over Hull City on Saturday

It was a comprehensive win for Leeds United on Saturday afternoon as Daniel Farke’s side secured a second Championship victory of the season, and James Maddison has been left impressed.

Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe both scored their first goals of the season, with Joseph nipping in front of a Hull defender to convert a Manor Solomon cross. Then, Piroe finished well with the Hull goal gaping.

It sees Leeds pick up a second win of the Championship campaign and a third consecutive clean sheet ahead of the September international break, with Farke’s men securing a solid eight points from four.

It also saw three players make their Leeds debuts, with Isaac Schmidt not registered in time to play on Saturday. Solomon started for Leeds with Dan James injured, having joined on loan from Tottenham.

Maddison shares what he loved about Leeds win over Hull

Solomon was not the only one to make his debut, with Ao Tanaka and Largie Ramazani coming off the bench to play. But it was Solomon that made the biggest impression of the three Leeds debutants.

The Israel star showed some wonderful close control throughout, and it was Solomon that created the moment of difference when he went past two Hull players before supplying the cross for Joseph to score.

Spurs captain Maddison replied to Solomon’s Instagram post, saying he loved to see the former Fulham and Shakhtar Donetsk star back on the pitch after almost a year out injured after tearing his meniscus.

Maddison commented: “Love it mate, well done”, while Junior Firpo also replayed some emojis.

But judging from what was on offer in what was Solomon’s first professional outing since 30 September 2023, Leeds have made a real coup. Most notably, it was his close technique and control that stood out.

The Israeli produced a game-changing moment in a game that began to show signs of Leeds struggling to find the winner, something which happened a few times last season. But, Solomon didn’t allow that.

Solomon said after the match it might take him a bit of time to get back to his best having spent a year on the sidelines, but if Saturday was a rusty version of the Spurs star, Leeds have signed a proper player.
