Crysencio Summerville says he is enjoying playing in the number 10 position at Leeds United this season.
Summerville was speaking to LUTV ahead of this afternoon’s clash with Watford where he was quizzed on his start to the new campaign.
Though he has returned to the wing in recent matches, Daniel Farke handed Summerville a more central role during pre-season and the opening day draw with Cardiff City.
Summerville looked electric in his first game in that new role, netting a goal and assist to salvage a draw against the Bluebirds, almost single-handedly carrying Leeds’ attack.
Joel Piroe’s arrival has seen chances through the middle harder to come by, though out wide certainly still feels like his strongest position, producing a superb display in the 0-0 draw at Hull City on Wednesday.
Summerville enjoying new position under Farke at Leeds
Summerville says he enjoys the freedom that comes with playing as a number 10 but is determined to add more goal contributions to his game wherever he plays.
He said: “It’s a new position from what I have had in previous years but for me it’s good to have a new role in the team, I like to free roam. I just keep enjoying it, playing with a smile on my face but I also try to put in some goals and assists. Not only me, but the team will be happy with this.”
With Wilfried Gnonto now set for a spell on the sidelines, the onus is certainly on Summerville to step up as Leeds’ main threat from the wide areas.
There will not be many Championship defenders capable of handling Summerville when he is at his best, and more performances like at Hull will mean more goals and assists are on the way.
Whether it is through the middle or on the wing, there is no doubt that Summerville has the potential to reach double figures for goals and assists this term.
