Neil Warnock was left absolutely furious after one moment in Leeds United’s defeat to Portsmouth.

Leeds United suffered their first loss since November on Sunday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Portsmouth in a massive blow in the Championship title race.

It was an insipid performance from Daniel Farke’s side who continue to struggle in early kick-offs, with Colby Bishop getting the winning goal in the second half.

Yet, they still had ample opportunities to take the lead as Joel Piroe squandered two glorious chances from mere yards out, even skying one chance over the bar after Manor Solomon had rounded the goalkeeper.

Additionally, Leeds should have been awarded a penalty in the first half when Dan James was kicked in the box by Matt Ritchie but Premier League official Rob Jones didn’t give it.

It was a decision that baffled commentators Lee Hendrie and Lucy Ward while former Leeds manager Neil Warnock was left enraged.

When asked if he thought it was a penalty on Sky Sports, Warnock said: “Absolutely.

“It’s a disgrace, he’s in a good position an all the referee Rob Jones. But he sees that and he says he’s got the ball. When he does it, he puts his arm up as if he’s going to blow initially and then he puts it down.

“This is where, they know the laws, they just don’t know the game. That is, in the Premier League that’s a cert penalty because he’s got help.

“But he doesn’t need any help with that, you’re not going to get a more obviously penalty than that. Deary me.

“That’s why they should have Championship referees refereeing. He’s a Premiership referee, 17/20 games he’s had and he comes down to the Championship.

“He gives that in the Premier League. I know he’s got help as well but that’s unbelievable, in it? To not give a decision like that.”

Door open for Sheffield United in Championship title race

The defeat comes as a humungous blow for Leeds, who may have thrown away the momentum they built following their late wins over Sheffield United and Sunderland.

Since that comeback victory over the Black Cats, Leeds have drawn to West Brom and now fallen to defeat at Fratton Park.

As a result, The Blades have now climbed up to being level on points with Leeds at the top of the Championship table.

With the momentum in their favour, the door is open for Chris Wilder’s side to take the ascendency in the title race that promises more drama to come.
