The Italian media were left frustrated at Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto on Tuesday night after missing a chance in Italy’s win over Ukraine.
That is according to Corriere dello Sport, who handed Gnonto a 6/10 rating for his performance after coming off the bench with just over half an hour to play.
Gnonto was praised for showing more ‘dynamism’ than he did in the draw against North Macedonia on Saturday, but a poor decision in the final third also saw him criticised.

As per the report, Gnonto had a good chance to make it 3-1 and put the game to bed but instead of shooting turned backwards.
That could be as a result of some lack of confidence in front of goal, which can’t have been helped by some comments earlier in the day from journalist Umberto Chiariello, who claimed he does not deserve to wear the blue shirt.
Italian media deliver verdict on Gnonto
Writing in their post-match player ratings piece, Corriere dello Sport criticised Gnonto for his poor decision in front of goal.
They wrote: “Gnonto 6/10. He has the ball at his feet to make it 3-1, he goes back. But the dynamism on the right is increasing.”

It is important to remember Gnonto is still only 19 and so his decision making in the final third is only going to improve as he gets more game time.
From a Leeds point of view, the fact Gnonto has played in both of Italy’s matches is good news as it would suggest he remains very much part of their plans, which is what caused his concern in the summer after dropping into the Championship.
Gnonto will be a big player under Daniel Farke this season and once a few goals begin to go in, which will they will at this level, his confidence will sky rocket again.
