Tony Dorigo has claimed the current uncertainty surrounding the ownership situation could affect Leeds United’s squad.
Dorigo was writing in his latest weekly column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, where he claimed the things going on behind-the-scenes at boardroom level can have an impact on players.
Leeds are still waiting to receive approval from the EFL for San Francisco 49ers Enterprises’ full takeover of the club from Andrea Radrizzani, with an agreement having been announced almost three weeks ago.
That delay is causing a knock-on effect for other matters surrounding the club, with Leeds holding off from confirming their new manager until EFL ratification officially arrives.
Daniel Farke is believed to be the leading contender at this stage, with speculation having gone extremely quiet in recent days as the anxious wait for approval goes on.
Dorigo says ownership situation could affect Leeds players
The first batch of players are set to return for pre-season training on July 2 and Leeds will be eager to have everything in place by then.
If the wait extends beyond that, the Leeds squad will be entering an environment surrounded by uncertainty, which in the eyes of Dorigo, could have a negative impact.
He said: “49ers Enterprises are awaiting EFL ratification of their takeover and although that kind of boardroom stuff has nothing to do with the bleep test or body fat measurements, it still matters to the players. Ownership and the way a club is run can impact you, as a player.”
Like he said, while there may not be a direct correlation, the players will be wanting to comeback to a club that has everything in place for a successful season.
At this stage, the only first team coach at the club is Michael Skubala but the squad will need as much time as possible with whoever the new manager may be, rather than wasting time with someone they know will only be in charge temporarily.
