‘It needs’: David Prutton tells Leeds what they must do to push for promotion

David Prutton believes Leeds United need ‘transparent leadership’ throughout the club if they are to push for promotion.

Prutton was writing in his latest weekly column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, where he explained there is a very different feeling around the club from last time in the Championship, and they need to try recreate that.

With Leeds’ takeover from San Francisco 49ers Enterprises eight days ago, they are now looking to build up a head of steam before the new season.

The Whites are looking to wrap up the process of appointing a new manager next week, while Nick Hammond has already arrived as an interim football advisor to oversee the summer transfer window.

Once a manager is officially confirmed, Leeds will be able to begin their quest of overhauling the squad, with plenty of incomings and outgoings expected.

Prutton calls for Leeds transparency

In the weeks that followed relegation, Leeds supporters very much felt as though they were left in the dark regarding the ownership situation.

However, that has started to change in the days that have followed since 49ers’ takeover, which is something Prutton feels needs to continue.

He said: “Leeds are still second favourites because they are an ex Premier League club that were very very good the last time they were in the Championship.

“It’s a very different vibe now about Leeds and it’s up to them to react quickest and it needs good solid transparent leadership from top to bottom.”

There is no doubt Prutton is correct there, as the silence that followed relegation is what really frustrated the Leeds fanbase.

However, the last few days have certainly offered signs of encouragement, but that must continue if Leeds are going to enjoy a successful season.

When Leeds were promoted in 2019/20, everyone was on the same page, but that is something which has evaporated in recent seasons.

Getting back to how it was could be the key.
