Daniel Farke has given a glowing verdict on the versatility of Leeds United star Sam Byram, and even compared him to German footballing legend Phillip Lahm – even if Byram is now injured for Tuesday.
Byram has been sensational for Leeds since returning to Elland Road in the summer. Playing 143 times for the Whites prior to his return, he has added another 19 games to that tally – even scoring for Leeds.
The 30-year-old has gone from being a potential squad player if he did earn a new deal, to becoming a key player for Farke’s men. Byram is now injured, after a hamstring problem picked up at Blackburn.
Speaking about Byram and being a right-footed player playing on the left side of the defence, Farke compared Bayern Munich and Germany legend Lahm – as per the club’s YouTube – to the Leeds player.

“Sam Byram has played right-back for all of his twenties but right now, more of a left-back. Had this with Philipp Lahm, the best left-back in the world – German captain. He moved to right-back, late twenties.
“Good technical skills, good passing skills, a right-footed player can play well on the left – like Byram, or Lahm. I don’t want to compare them too much, but it is possible to shine as a right-footer on the left.”

Byram has been sensational – comparisons with a player like Lahm is a bit of a stretch but at this level, you might argue he has been the best left-back in the League this term. Despite, being right-footed.
Perhaps harsh, on Leif Davis. The ex-Leeds man is on fire for Ipswich, who sit ahead of Leeds in the race to finish in the automatic promotion places. Hopefully, Byram can remain fit in the second half of 23-24.
