Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to host Leeds United on Friday night and Owls winger Marvin Johnson is excited for the Yorkshire derby – saying “all the ingredients” are there for a big game.
Leeds come into the game after securing a tenth league win in 11 games – while keeping a huge eight clean sheets in that run. Wednesday sit in 23rd, but Ian Poveda‘s side have rallied in recent months.
Indeed, Danny Rohl’s side have won five of their last six and are now level with three other sides ahead of them, on 38 points. Wednesday will come into the game full of confidence, in a huge Yorkshire derby.
Poveda has played his part for Wednesday, earning praise from Jean Kevin Augustin after helping his side beat Plymouth in the week. Of course, Poveda will be unavailable for Friday, as he is on loan.
Johnson spoke to Wednesday’s official website ahead of the game, and described Leeds as a “top team”. He said that Friday night’s game has all the ingredients for a special game, clearly excited.
“We have individual players getting important goals. We will always back ourselves at Hillsborough. You look at the game against Leicester at home earlier in the season, second half performance at their place.
“Leeds are a top team, they are fighting for promotion, it’s on Sky at night, all the ingredients are there. We need to focus on our jobs, keep on doing what we are doing and the table will take care of itself.”

Leeds currently sit in third place despite our 1-0 win over Stoke, as a Leif Davis-inspired Ipswich came from behind twice to beat Bristol City. A brilliant win for the Tractor Boys that keeps them in second.
Southampton, meanwhile, are now six points behind Leeds and while they have a game in hand – it looks like a tall order for the Saints to get themselves back in top-two contention. Danny Murphy agrees.
