Leeds United fans shiver when they hear the name Massimo Cellino but fortunately, the Italian has not been involved at Elland Road since selling the club to Andrea Radrizzani in 2017.
Back in 2014, the ‘King of Corn’ completed a takeover of Leeds from GFH. But only after appealing the EFL decision to reject his initial takeover earlier that year, with Cellino finally acquiring 75% from April 2014.
That summer, Cellino signed 14 players, sacked Brian McDermott and hired the unknown Dave Hockaday. It was the first managerial change under Cellino’s reign, with Hocakday the second boss after McDermott.
Over the next three years, amid bans, cuts, court cases and other controversies, Cellino hired and fired five more bosses. Darko Milanic, Neil Redfearn, Uwe Rosler, Steve Evans and Garry Monk worked under him.

Massimo Cellino has since owned Serie B side Brescia after Leeds
Leaving Leeds in 2017, Cellino returned to Italy and bought Brescia. Appointing Roberto Battaglia that summer, Cellino has made 20 further managerial changes – five of which have worked twice under him.
A total of 17 managers have taken charge of his Brescia in seven and a half years, including Pep Clotet. A name Leeds fans will remember as Garry Monk’s assistant, working twice as Brescia boss under Cellino.
On Monday, Cellino hired the 21st new manager during his Brescia reign in the form of Pierpaolo Bisoli. A man that is incredibly experienced in Italian football, managing 545 games for 11 different Italian clubs.
Bisoli’s appointment is an interesting one given the new gaffer’s son is actually club captain at Brescia. Cellino then, has not changed a bit since his Leeds tenure, happy to hire and fire when it suits him.

Massimo Cellino and Andrea Radrizzani fallout over the years
Cellino believed Radrizzani wanted to work with him, not buy him out. Having bought 50% in January 2017, Radrizzani then took full control that summer from Cellino, but shared a text sent two months later.
Indeed, Cellino says Radrizzani told him he wished he hadn’t bought Leeds only two months after buying the club. Cellino has also said Radrizzani still owes him money from the takeover of the Yorkshire club.
But that has not stopped Cellino and his love affair with owning football clubs, having tried to buy West Ham in 2010. A lucky escape for the Hammers, not so much for Leeds and Serie B side, Brescia.
