Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that a possible move for Stuart Webber to Leeds United is not imminent, even though the sporting director is set to become a free agent very soon.
Webber, 39, confirmed he would be leaving Norwich City in the summer. He remains on the books at Carrow Road, but is yet to make a decision on his future. Leeds have been strongly linked with Webber.
The Sun said in October that Rangers had shown interest, but Football Scotland claimed the Scottish side would not be hiring Webber – who is a boyhood Leeds fan. Pink Un say Leeds have held talks.
Leeds brought in Nick Hammond to replace Victor Orta but only on a temporary basis, with no decision made on his long-term future. Gretar Steinsson has also joined from Tottenham, in that department.
The thinking being that too much trust was placed in one man, in Orta. With a team of experts in that department, there are more checks. Jacobs has delivered an update on Leeds moving for Webber.
“There’s nothing imminent at the moment with Stuart Webber. He’s going to be in demand and he is a free agent, or very soon anyway, in the next fortnight. I believe he handed in his notice in June.
“From what I understand, Webber wants to take some personal time. He’s worked with Daniel Farke before, so the links are inevitable. But there’s nothing sort of firmed up between Leeds and Webber.”

Do Leeds need Webber? Hammond, along with his team that also includes Steinsson, produced a wonderful job alongside Farke in the summer. We made some excellent signings during the summer.
Sam Byram, Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara and Joel Piroe have all impressed. Ilia Gruev, Jaidon Anthony, Karl Darlow and Djed Spence have also joined. Hammond could stay, long term.
