Tony Dorigo believes Leeds United’s delay in appointing a new manager could see them fall behind fellow relegated sides Southampton and Leicester City.
Dorigo was writing in his latest column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, where he admitted he is growing a little ‘impatient’ in Leeds’ hunt for a new boss, before acknowledging it is important they find the right man.
With the beginning of pre-season now less than two weeks away, Leeds remain in the process of finding Sam Allardyce’s replacement despite having been relegated almost a month ago.
Leeds are reportedly looking to wrap up the process this week with the final face-to-face interviews taking place, though it certainly does feel as though it is dragging out.
Daniel Farke, Scott Parker and Patrick Vieira are the current front-runners for the role, but it remains to be seen whether San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have a surprise up their sleeve.
Dorigo worried Leeds could fall behind
Leicester City confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager last week, while Russell Martin has had an agreement in place with Southampton for several weeks.
Dorigo is worried that Leeds will fall behind these two clubs in terms of bringing new players in if an appointment is not tied up quickly.
He said: “I’m impatient like everyone else and already feeling like we’re a bit behind the eight ball. Everyone else is cracking on with their managers and sorting their players out and we have all that to do, with pre-season just a couple of weeks away.
“But if an extra week means we get the right man for the future then I think that has to be the more important part of the equation.”
Dorigo speaks for all Leeds fans when he says he wants this wrapped up as soon as possible given how long it has gone on for.
So much work needs doing in terms of overhauling the squad and that cannot take place until a new manager is through the door.
Leeds risk leaving themselves short on time if they wait any longer.
