Reports have emerged from Italy claiming that Andrea Radrizzani‘s Sampdoria are set to table an offer to sign Leeds United defender Diogo Monteiro in the ‘coming days’ – and it is a move the Leeds man really has got to consider.

Monteiro, 18, joined Leeds literally six months ago in January. The Portugal U18 star landing at Elland Road after his move from Swiss side Servette, where he broke into the first XI. He is yet to make a breakthrough with the Whites.

The defender is a highly-rated talent, a ball-playing defender and certainly has a big future ahead of him. But, it will be a worry for him that Jeremiah Mullen and Kris Moore have overtaken him – since Daniel Farke arrived as boss.

Monteiro was on the bench against Manchester United. But Farke used Mullen and Moore instead of Monteiro, who remained an unused sub. All three were absent from the side against Monaco at Yorks’s LNER Stadium on Saturday.

So, even with Rasmus Kristensen, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente leaving, Monteiro is some way down the rankings at centre-back. Moore, Mullen, Charlie Cresswell, Liam Cooper, Pascal Struijk and possibilities of a new signing or two.

Sampdoria set to table Monteiro offer: Leeds man must consider move

Italian outlet Club Doria 46 report that Leeds defender Monteiro is a target for Radrizzani. Bought by the ex-Leeds chairman in January, he is now a target for Radrizzani again. The Italian owner has just installed gaffer Andrea Pirlo.

The report says that Leeds are to make an offer in the ‘coming days’. Now, Leeds will not want to lose Monteiro so soon after buying him. He is a player with huge potential and still only 18, he has a huge future ahead of himself.

But he is going to struggle to break into the senior side at Leeds, even this season. With Moore and Mullen ahead, as well as Cresswell and the potential for more signings – he seriously has to consider a move to Pirlo’s Sampdoria.
