Leeds United remain in the market for a new left-back before the end of Friday’s deadline.

The Whites are currently extremely short for options in that position having lost Sam Byram to injury during the first half of the 4-3 win at Ipswich Town.

Byram, who is also naturally right-footed, joined on a free transfer in the summer and came into the side to replace Leo Hjelde, who struggled in Leeds‘ opening two matches.

Despite speculation he would move, Junior Firpo also remains at Elland Road as the final stages of the window approaches, but is still injured.

A few left-backs have been linked over the course of the summer, with Leicester City’s Luke Thomas having emerged as a concrete target this week, according to the Athletic.

Burnley’s move for Maatsen could help Leeds land Taylor

However, one player’s name who has not gone away throughout the window is Burnley’s Charlie Taylor, and the Clarets’ latest move in the transfer window could be the green light Leeds need to pursue a deal.

As per Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Burnley are in talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for Ian Maatsen, who enjoyed a superb season on loan at Turf Moor last year.

Maatsen kept Taylor out of the side at left-back all season, but as of yet Burnley have been unable to re-sign him.

In fact, Burnley haven’t been able to bring in a left-back at all, which has prevented Taylor from being able to seal an exit amid interest from Leeds.

Earlier this month, Phil Hay warned that Taylor is a name to keep an eye on in the closing stages of the window, while Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor claimed Burnley would only consider letting him go if a replacement was found.

If Burnley are finally able to complete a deal for Maatsen, it could be the domino needed to fall for Taylor to return to Leeds.
