Leeds United appear to be pretty well stocked in the striking department for the rest of the season.
Patrick Bamford was handed his first start of the season in the 3-0 win over Birmingham City and found the back of the net for the first time since April, showing he still has something to offer at this level.
Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe, meanwhile, has been Daniel Farke’s partnership of choice for the majority of the campaign, and with some youngsters coming through too, there are more pressing priorities.
That said, Villarreal’s Ben Brereton Diaz was mentioned as a name to keep an eye on last month, though it would appear Premier League strugglers Sheffield United are set to win the race to sign him on loan.
However, according to Ben Jacobs, the two clubs are not currently discussing an option-to-buy, and that could leave the door open for Leeds, as he actually still remains on the club’s radar.
Leeds could make Brereton Diaz move in the summer
Jacobs has reported that if Leeds are promoted, they could make a move for the 24-year-old in the summer, despite his transfer situation at the moment.
With Sheffield United bottom of the Premier League, there is a chance that the two Yorkshire clubs swap divisions for the second season in succession.
Due to the likelihood of the Blades being relegated, a permanent option does not look likely for Brereton Diaz, given that he only joined Villarreal on a four-year-deal in the summer.
Brereton Diaz was on Leeds’ radar when they were previously in the Premier League, having ripped up the Championship at Blackburn Rovers, with his former manager Tony Mowbray labelling him as an ‘extraordinary talent’.
If Leeds are promoted this season, and based on his struggles in La Liga, it has to be said, that this would not be the most inspiring of signing.
