‘I thought’… Conor Gallagher shares what he actually thought of Leeds after playing against them tonight

Conor Gallagher has shared his verdict on Leeds United after Chelsea’s narrow 3-2 win in the FA Cup.

A much changed Leeds side ran their Premier League opponents all the way with Gallagher’s 90th minute winner proving the only difference between the two teams.

Mateo Joseph had given Leeds an early lead after a mix up at the back between Axel Disasi and Moises Caicedo, before Nicolas Jackson equalised around seven minutes later.

Mykhaylo Mudryk then put the hosts ahead just before the break but Leeds refused to be beaten and were the better side throughout the whole second half, with Joseph heading in his second of the day.

Gallagher then came off the bench to score a late winner for Chelsea and speaking to ITV Sport after the game, he hailed Leeds as a ‘great side’ after coming up against them.

Gallagher praises Leeds

He said: “It was a great game. Really tough game. I thought Leeds were a great side, doing really well this season, so we knew it would be tough and to win in that way was fantastic.”

Leeds were without a number of key players tonight including Georginio Rutter and Ilia Gruev, yet still ran an extremely strong Chelsea side all the way until the end.

As mentioned, Leeds were the better side in the second half, dominating more of the ball and the number of shots on goal, and could have easily gone onto win.

Daniel Farke was extremely frustrated with the scheduling of the game tonight but even despite the first defeat of 2024, they can take a lot of confidence going into the trip to Huddersfield Town.

Clearly Chelsea’s multi-million pound team struggled to cope with Leeds and that should also give them great pride if they are promoted ahead of next season.
