A whole handful of Leeds United youngsters have impressed out in Germany with Daniel Farke’s senior squad after being called-up, and one teenager has caught the eye of Tony Dorigo.

Ahead of the trip to Germany, Farke included six youngsters in his 27-man squad. A group of players that also included Brenden Aaronson, Max Wober and signings Joe Rothwell, Alex Cairns and Jayden Bogle.

Goalkeeper Harry Christy was included, as was Archie Gray’s younger brother Harry. Sam Chambers was among the scorers against Harrogate, while Luca Thomas also got the call-up to the Germany camp.

But it was James Debayo and Charlie Crew that have seemed to make the largest impression on Farke, with both featuring in all three of Leeds’ friendlies so far both at Harrogate and then the two in Germany.

Leeds produced 2-0 win over Schalke on Saturday afternoon

Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe scored second-half goals for Leeds against second-tier giants Schalke, taking Leeds to another pre-season win after the 4-1 triumph over Hannover 96 earlier this week.

Debayo and Crew came off the bench and the latter was given a glowing verdict by former Leeds man Dorigo during his role as co-commentator with Bryn Law on LUTV, as Leeds edged towards a 2-0 win.

“I like what I see from Charlie, as well. Really comfortable on the ball, moves it nice and quickly. Great vision, awareness for one so young,” Dorigo said when Crew came on after 70 minutes on Saturday.

What Daniel Farke has said about Leeds teenager Charlie Crew

Crew has already earned a senior Wales cap such is his potential. The youngster has been involved with the first team on a number of occasions, but is yet to win his first competitive outing for Farke’s men.

However, Crew has been excellent and the chances are that the teenager will play plenty of matches in the upcoming campaign, even if he is largely starting from the bench but Farke is a big fan of Crew.

He said last term: “We see him as a high potential young player. You can’t take it for granted a 17 year old plays day in day out like Archie. It is unfair to put the same weight of expectation on Charlie Crew.”
