Georginio Rutter has claimed he is happy at Leeds United as he prepares for his first full season at the club.
Rutter was speaking to BBC West Yorkshire reporter Adam Pope after Leeds’ first pre-season match under Daniel Farke, in which the Whites were defeated 2-0 by Manchester United.
The 21-year-old is expected to be a big part of Leeds’ plans this season following a difficult first six months following his club record move from Hoffenheim.
Having played under four different managers, Rutter was very much in and out of the side and was handed just one Premier League start.
However, Rutter has been a big part of Leeds’ social media content during pre-season so far and according to Phil Hay, the decision has been made to keep him.
Rutter speaks on Leeds future and next season
Rutter played the first 45 minutes against Man United as a striker in Oslo, despite noises coming out of the club suggesting he will be used out wide.
Speaking after the game, Rutter says he doesn’t mind which position he plays, as well as confirming he is feeling much happier at the club.
He said: “My performance was OK, physically I am good but I think I can do better because for the first game it is difficult sometimes. Now it is the new Championship and I hope we continue in this way and my head now is better. I want to play football and I am happy.
“He is the coach but I can play winger or striker. I know I have more ability to play as a striker because I have a lot of [experience] in striker but I can also play winger. I need to learn more so I can play both.”
Rutter will no doubt play a key role in the Championship this season and it is a promising sign that he is now able to do an interview in English.
Part of the reason he struggled during the first few months at Leeds was due to the language barrier but he is now speaking it fairly confidently.
Whether up top or out wide, Rutter is going to be a huge asset.
