Leeds United are desperate to get back to winning ways in the Championship when they face Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

It’s been a tough start to 2025 for Leeds United after they suffered back-to-back draws with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

Daniel Farke’s side managed to defeat local rivals Harrogate Town in the FA Cup last weekend but it was far from a convincing performance in the narrow 1-0 win.

Leeds are still top of the Championship table despite their wobble but will need to get back in form to ensure they remain above Burnley and Sheffield United.

It will be the Blades’ city rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, making the short trip to Leeds for a Yorkshire derby in what is sure to be a hotly-contested fixture.

Unsurprisingly for such a big game, Leeds are back on the television screens as it has been picked for coverage by Sky Sports. As a result, there are multiple ways you can watch.

TV channel

The game will be shown on both Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, with coverage starting at 11:30 am.

As the match is being televised traditionally, it will not be shown on Sky Sports+ but it is still possible to livestream it.

Leeds United vs Sheffield Wednesday team news

Leeds were boosted at the weekend by the return of two absentee stars to action as Junior Firpo and Ilia Gruev both came on off the bench.

Firpo has missed a few weeks of action, on top of his multiple suspensions, but will likely come straight back into the fold on Sunday for Sam Byram.

Gruev’s time out was much more significant as he had been sidelined since October after undergoing knee surgery. Farke has been surprised by Gruev’s quick recovery but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be starting again any time soon.

The Whites will be without Pascal Struijk for the next three weeks with a hamstring injury and Patrick Bamford, who has suffered another knee injury amid rumours he could leave in January. Joel Piroe is fit.

Predictions

It’s been a mixed season for Wednesday so far but they’re well within the race to reach the play offs and will be a threat to Leeds, even at home.

Leeds should take confidence from the fact that they defeated the Owls 2-0 at Hillsborough in August and several key players were rested last weekend after a hectic Christmas period.

Leeds’ drop in form in 2025 is concerning, though, and they will have to step it up if they want the victory.
