Leeds United return to Championship action by welcoming Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United to Elland Road on Friday.

Leeds United snatched a draw from the jaws of victory in their 2-2 draw with frontrunners Sunderland last time out after Illan Meslier’s terrible mistake in the 97th minute.

It’s another team flying high at the top of the Championship table up next for Daniel Farke’s side as Sheffield United make the short journey north.

Here’s everything you need to know about the vital clash in the promotion race.

Leeds vs Sheffield United team news

Leeds could be boosted by the return of forward pair Dan James and Manor Solomon for the match as they have both been in training this week.

However, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Max Wober remain sidelined. Farke said in his pre-match press conference: “Good news with James and Solomon.

“Since late last week back in team training, a major part. Obviously Dan James was out a bit longer, six weeks, perhaps easier for Manor as he was out three weeks.

“Desperately need them back as solutions. Good news with Wober, he’s a bit ahead of schedule in his rehab programme.

“Expected him back after next international break, he could be involved before. Need to make some late decisions as need to wait until all players are back.”

Sheffield United have no fresh injury concerns and are only without Jack Robinson and Tom Davies.

Referee and officials

Lewis Smith will be the man in charge on Friday night.

Prediction

The pressure is on Leeds to get a big result against not only a local rival but a promotion one, too.

The Blades are still undefeated this season and have conceded just three goals in nine games, making them an extremely tough prospect for Farke’s side.

Meslier’s horrendous error in the final moments against Sunderland last time out might still be playing in his head but it’s crucial Leeds move on. Another point against a side in the top two would be nothing to sniff at.

Prediction: Leeds 1-1 Sheffield United
