Leeds United’s 10th signing of the transfer window is James Justin from Leicester City, who has plenty of experience at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire side have had a mixed window when it comes to signings, missing out on a few potentials, but James Justin is a target Leeds have landed after being on their list for many weeks now.

Leeds United News exclusively shared Leeds’ interest in Justin just under a month ago, and we then outlined that Justin’s mentality is to become a Leeds starter over Gabriel Gudmundsson or Jayden Bogle at the back.

Justin did not feature in Leicester’s lineup against Charlton Athletic on Saturday, after he suffered an injury last week.

Despite concerns, Leicester’s boss Marti Cifuentes explained it was just a dead leg for Justin. Now he has signed a four-year contract at Leeds, but what is his record at Elland Road?

James Justin’s record at Elland Road as a Leicester City player

James Justin had a mixed record against Leeds United during his time at Leicester City, with his five total appearances resulting in two wins and three losses.

His first encounter came in the 2020-21 season’s Premier League, where he was part of the Leicester team that secured a convincing 4-1 away victory. The following season, he played in both league fixtures against Leeds.

Leicester won the first match at home 1-0, but suffered a 3-1 defeat at Elland Road in the reverse fixture. Justin played the full 90 minutes in that game.

His final two appearances against the Yorkshire club came in the Championship during the 2023-24 season. He was part of the squad that lost 1-0 away and then again in the home leg.

Justin spoke about his experience at Elland Road after signing with Leeds, telling the club’s website: “The stadium has obviously got one of the best atmospheres in world football. And it’s always a daunting task to come here as an opposing team, but I’m happy to have the fans behind me this time.”

Having a player who already understands the incredible energy of Elland Road is a huge bonus for the side.

James Justin’s statistics last season for Leicester

In the 2024-25 season, James Justin’s statistics for Leicester City in the Premier League highlight his robust, all-around contribution. He made 36 appearances with 34 starts, demonstrating his importance to the team.

His offensive output was notable for a defender, with two goals and two assists. Defensively, he was a key figure, winning 37 tackles, 46 interceptions, and 963 successful passes.

When compared to some of Leeds United’s key defenders from their 2024-25 Championship campaign, Justin’s numbers look very strong, especially considering he achieved them in the more challenging Premier League.

For instance, while Leeds centre-back Joe Rodon was a rock at the back and a cornerstone of their promotion, he scored just one goal and provided no assists in 46 league appearances.

Similarly, Pascal Struijk, another solid defender for Leeds, had five goals but his total defensive actions per game were less than Justin’s.

While Junior Firpo had a great attacking season with four goals and ten assists, Justin’s balanced stat line of both attacking and defensive contributions in the top flight underscores his quality and versatility, positioning him as a valuable addition to the Leeds backline.
