Leeds United might remain at the top of the Championship table but Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Hull City delivered plenty of issues to be worried about ahead of promotion run-in.

Having gone in at the break 1-0 down to Ruben Selles’ side, Leeds came roaring back early in the second 45 with a brilliant half-hour performance. Ao Tanaka, Dan James and Joel Piroe all scored Leeds goals.

Indeed, it was Tanaka’s first in a Leeds shirt – a real stunner from the best part of 25 yards. Piroe netted his tenth goal of the season, taking his goal and assists to 15 for the current campaign with his neat finish.

But Leeds failed to hold onto the lead and Illan Meslier was almost solely to blame. He dropped a header at Joao Pedro’s feet for Hull’s second, having been arguably at fault for the first of an Abu Kamara brace.

Then, Kamara was able to equalise to make it 3-3 with a shot from the edge of the area that flew into the middle of Meslier’s goal. In response, Leeds are reportedly willing to sell Meslier in the January window.

Ao Tanaka was the only Leeds player to post on Instagram following the 3-3 draw, and now, Leeds skipper Ampadu has sent a message to supporters on his story. He says the squad know it wasn’t good enough.

He told Leeds fans on Instagram: “Disappointed, we know it wasn’t good enough from us this weekend. Thank you as always for the support.”

FA Cup clash might have just come at the perfect time for Leeds

After a run of five games in the space of a fortnight, Leeds can now take their minds off the battle for promotion and instead, can breathe a little bit with The FA Cup taking preference over the weekend.

Leeds take on League Two side and local outfit Harrogate Town. Daniel Farke will be sure to make a number of changes to his side, with Karl Darlow surely set to come in in place of under-fire Meslier.

But it comes at the perfect time. Leeds failed to hold on to a win against Blackburn despite taking the lead against John Eustace’s side in injury time, and then failed to hold on to a two-goal lead at Hull.

Perhaps just an inkling that the pressure might be getting to a few of Farke’s mainstay players. At least this weekend, the Leeds players can rest up and take their minds off things before Sheffield Wednesday.
