‘He wants’: Wilfried Gnonto’s agent now makes claim about his Leeds future

Wilfried Gnonto’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has admitted the Leeds United forward would like to continue in the Premier League.

Vigorelli was speaking to Calcio Mercato, where he claimed Gnonto’s focus remains on Italy’s U21s at the moment but talks will be held with Leeds to address his future.

Gnonto has been linked with a host of clubs from both the Premier League and Serie A this summer in the wake of Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.

That said, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have received no concrete interest or bids as of yet, with San Francisco 49ers Enterprises desperate to keep him at the club.

Alongside Tyler Adams, Jack Harrison and Max Wober, Gnonto is seen as a key player who could be crucial to an immediate return to the Premier League this season.

Gnonto’s agent addresses his Leeds future

Gnonto has four years left to run on his contract at Leeds and it is said to not include a release clause, putting the 49ers in a decent position to keep him.

However, his agent Vigorelli says he will hold discussions with Leeds on his future after the EUROs, stating he would like to continue at the top level, but also conceding anything can happen in football.

“I say that we are concentrated on the national team and the European championship. Then we have to talk to Leeds and we’ll see, but I think there will be options. 

“The Premier League experience has been fantastic for him and I think he wants to continue in that direction. Then in football everything can be. But right now the focus is on the national team.”

Hopefully once Vigorelli and Gnonto sit down together with the 49ers, Leeds’ new owners can convince him to remain at the club with an ambitious long-term plan.

That said, Leeds should certainly not be forced into selling Gnonto and must remain firm in commanding a high asking price given his age, reputation and contract status.

Southampton look set to demand around £50 million for their prized asset Romeo Lavia, and Leeds should be looking to use that as an example to follow.
