Harry Redknapp says if ‘dangerous’ Leeds United will avoid relegation from the Premier League

Leeds United should be in seventh place, ahead of Manchester City. However, Daniel Farke’s side sit in 11th place ahead of Monday night’s fixture between Everton and West Ham.

It has been a brilliant start to life back in the Premier League as Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley look to break the trend of promoted sides being relegated. The last six promoted sides have all been relegated.

It looks as though it will change this season. Alan Shearer predicted the trend would end this season back in the summer, and the form of notably Leeds and Sunderland looks as though Shearer will be correct.

But we are only six games in, with 32 Premier League games still to play between now and the end of the season. Leeds are next in action against another of Harry Redknapp’s old sides Tottenham on Saturday.

That is, after facing Redknapp’s first managerial club, Bournemouth. Leeds came within an inch of a 2-1 win at Elland Road, but conceded in the 93rd minute. The same at Fulham, losing 1-0 in injury time.

If games finished on the dot at 90 minutes, Leeds would have 11 points and sit in seventh place after Sunday’s fixtures. Eight points and 11th is the reality, and Redknapp had his say on Daniel Farke’s side.

Redknapp told TalkSPORT (29/09, 9.40AM) that all three promoted sides could remain in the Premier League this season: “Leeds are always dangerous. Elland Road is a difficult place to go and get a victory.

“It’s always intimidating, big crowd, great atmosphere. It’s going to be tight. It will be open, who knows, all three promoted teams could stay up and that would be amazing, we’ve not had that for years.”

Leeds United’s next five fixtures, up until November break

The October international break is close but beforehand, Leeds are back at Elland Road for the fourth time this season. They welcome an impressive Tottenham side that struggled to beat Wolves on Saturday.

They drew 1-1 at home to Wolves, a side Leeds had pushed aside 3-1 at Molineux the week before. Then, Leeds have a run of games that they will feel they can pick up some points, starting with Burnley away.

West Ham at home next, which Leeds will see as a game they should win, before tough-looking trips to Nottingham Forest and Brighton. Leeds will hope they can get another couple of wins before November.
