Graham Smyth has taken to Twitter to inform Leeds United fans of how manager Daniel Farke responded when he was asked about the imminent addition of Karl Darlow – and the German gaffer gave a simple seven-word reply.

Darlow, 32, is expected to be our second signing of the summer and there is a belief on social media that Darlow could be announced on Friday. It comes after he returned from Newcastle’s pre-season tour of the US this week.

A fee of £400,000 has been agreed with Eddie Howe’s side. He is expected to come in as first choice, meaning Illan Meslier looks as though he will be off. Perhaps, a return to his home country this season – if a fee can be agreed.

So, Darlow is expected to be a Leeds player by the time we take on Hearts this weekend. Farke was asked by Smyth about the incoming goalkeeper and the gaffer gave a very brief response: “And, Karl Darlow is a good goalkeeper.”

Darlow is a bargain at £400,000. Without a doubt. A goalkeeper with Premier League quality, in his gloves. He is a smart signing from Leeds and easily value for money – especially, judging by his impressive loan at Hull last season.

Now, the focus most switch quickly. Farke outlined the need for central defenders and full-backs ahead of the new season. Leeds could also do with another midfielder, and a no.10. Joe Gelhardt played in the role, at least to start.

Darlow joining at least gives Leeds a solution between the sticks, and makes it clear the club are looking to sell Illan Meslier. He needs to go, and many believe it is his time. Darlow is a solid replacement for a cheap price, hopefully.
