Patrick Bamford is expected to stay at Leeds United this season despite reports to the contrary earlier in the window.
That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who reports Bamford, Georginio Rutter and Mateo Joseph are all set to provide Daniel Farke with options to lead the line.
As per the Daily Mail at the beginning of the month, Bamford is ready to leave this summer after attracting interest from elsewhere following Leeds’ relegation.
Bamford has endured a nightmare last couple of years at Leeds due to a string of injury problems that has led to a complete loss of form.
However, Bamford still has three years remaining on his current deal at Leeds and as such, it is difficult to see anyone paying a substantial amount to sign him this summer.
Bamford expected to stay at Leeds despite reports
Bamford could still play a useful role at Leeds in the Championship but it is imperative he is not relied on as the main man once again.
The 29-year-old simply misses far too many clear-cut chances to be Leeds’ first choice number nine again, but he does still have some decent enough attributes to make him an asset.
Due to his performances at the end of last season, the relationship between Bamford and Leeds supporters became very strained and a similar start to this campaign is just not what’s needed.
As such, Leeds simply must sign a new out and out starting number nine to ease the pressure on Bamford and score the goals he is unlikely to provide.
Bamford can then come in as and when he needs to, providing an extremely useful option coming off the bench.
