Leeds United winger Dan James has insisted he does not regret his loan move to Fulham last season.
James was speaking in an interview with the PA News Agency while away on international duty with Leeds, where he assessed his time at Fulham, and return to Elland Road.
The 25-year-old had been deemed surplus to requirements at Leeds by Jesse Marsch during the latter stages of the 2022 summer window, having only arrived for £25 million from Manchester United 12 months earlier.
With so little time of the window remaining, James ended up making the season-long-loan switch to Fulham, where things did not exactly go as planned.
James made just five Premier League starts during his time at Craven Cottage as he struggled to force his way into Marco Silva’s side, who enjoyed an excellent first campaign back in the top-flight.
James has no regrets over Fulham move
Despite his lack of game time, James does not regret his brief time at Fulham and instead reflects on it as a ‘good learning curve’ for him both as a player and person.
He said: “Fulham was a good learning curve for me and I don’t regret it at all. I didn’t play as much as I wanted to but, because it happened so late in the window on deadline day, it takes a while to settle and find somewhere to live.
“You’ve got children as well and the first two or three months were very hard. The World Cup was coming up and it’s always hard to settle in pretty quick.”
James had been heavily involved at Leeds during the early stages of the season, starting in matches against both Chelsea and Brighton after returning from his suspension.
As such, it must’ve been a real surprise for him to then be told he was no longer needed, which left him scratching around for some sort of move.
The chaotic nature of his exit was reflected in his inability to assert himself at Fulham, and there is no doubt he is now happy to be back at Leeds.
