Georginio Rutter has shared details he had of a conversation with Daniel Farke “at the desk” in the summer, after Farke arrived as the club’s new manager – with the Frenchman’s confidence lacking.

Rutter, 21, has been in superb form this season – having a hand in 13 goals in 21 Championship games. It is a far cry from the player that first joined Leeds, struggling for game time and failing to prove his fee.

But it all changed, relegation perhaps helping Rutter. It saw him become first choice – ignoring interest from the likes of Lyon. He has become the attacking heartbeat of Farke’s side, in our promotion push.

If Rutter plays well, Leeds play well. Rutter spoke to the official Leeds United podcast in what was a Christmas special, stating how he went to see Farke in his office in the summer – shortly after he joined.

“Daniel Farke. I tell him, I feel bad. At the desk, I told him I feel bad because I don’t have confidence. He didn’t help me, but I didn’t know if I had to stay. He said ‘Georgie, it is normal you feel like this’.

“He gave me good words. The confidence got better. My mentality was, work hard. Physically, I wasn’t good, not playing for six months. The window was difficult for the team, after this – I said, I’m here.”

It is incredible to think Rutter has gone from what he was in his first six months at Leeds, to the player he is now – the one we all love. A fan favourite. Jon Newsome praised his improvement, as “ridiculous”.

If Leeds are to gain promotion back to the Premier League, then Rutter is going to be central to anything good Leeds do. He has been so far. His winner against Leicester, displays against the likes of Watford.
